HARLOO RESERVE forms the hub of our operation.

Situated in the tropical Kwazulu Natal towards the east coast of South Africa, the privately owned Reserve has belonged to the Rouillard family since 1959.

It used to he part of the Pongola Game Reserve, proclaimed by President Paul Kruger back in 1894, making it the first Wildlife Sanctuary in Africa, only second oldest in the world after Yellowstone.

Characteristic to the beautiful Zululand bushveld, the Reserve has wide valleys, flat land and occasional ridges providing spectacular panoramic views, covering approximately 9 x 3 miles.

HARLOO is a true African wilderness with an immense diversity of game, birds and trees.

Experience the sight of the elusive and beautiful Nyala bull just before dusk, a graceful Kudu crossing the road… the elegant giraffe peeping at you through the thorn trees and the thrill of spotting the “Black Death of Africa”… the Cape Buffalo.

Although many more are to be seen, we offer over 26 huntable species, from the petite little Red Duiker to the huge nimble 7000 pound White Rhino. In the immediate area elephant, hippo, crocodile as the endangered Black Rhino can be seen.

The Pongola Reserve and Jozini Lake borders us to the east. It's the third biggest lake in South Africa with the ever beautiful blue Lembombo Mountain range forming the backdrop. A gentle boat cruise usually rewards you with a spectacular African sunset over the water. Hippo, Rhino, Fish Eagle and crocodile sightings are common. Tiger fishing, Game and bird viewing from the boat is a fantastic unforgettable experiance and a must!
